Breakthroughs!

It’s been a crazy and busy week for Brigette!! I’ve done loads of stuff this week. One thing in particular, but will go to that later.

On Friday…

My very dear Yeat Teng came to Australia for vacation! Actually, she came here with her family to visit her second sister and brother. Her family lives in the city, so she’s there, that means…. I need to get myself there….. ALONE! Which totally crazy and outrageous! Those who know me well will know how “good” my sense of direction is.

Brief records of “good” sense of direction:-
1. Will always get myself lost in 1 Utama
2. Heading home after cell group in Ah Ci’s house in Kelana Jaya, and ended up in NKJV express way
3. etc.

So… I took the BIG challenge, went to city just to meet up with me dear Teng. Remind you, I only went city once with my big sis, which is on February. So, that time is the 2nd time the little timid mouse enter the city. Haha…

So yeah, after my 11 o’clock class, I went to bus stop to catch the bus. I actually pray hard to God the day before, that I won’t end up in some country place. And guess what? God’s been great. I met an old school friend from Malaysia when I catch the bus, and she’s heading to Melbourne Central as well. [Haha… God knows my “good skill”]
Succeeded in getting myself to see Teng!

She permed her hair, and she looks so pretty and mature!! She actually looks like a doll. ^_^ Get to catch up with Teng, and find out that our dear Bey Ern also start to “ban leng leng” already. Hehe… really can’t wait to see the new Bey. Kei Wan….. the Shopping Queen. hehe… Memang know that you like to “ban leng leng” already, and yeah, get to know more stuff about Aaron from Sunway too… *cheeky smile*

Well, Teng’s family is actually planning to go to Melbourne Zoo, so I was invited. [Sigh… been intruding in a lot of family day lately] Yeah, it was fun! ^_^ Get to see a lot of animals, cute cute penguins, ugly baboons, lazy lions, swift seals, kangaroos [can’t find a description for it, but it was my 1st tie seeing a kangaroo], miserable koala [because there’s only one koala]. Basically, I enjoyed the day a lot, really happy to see familiar faces again. Thank you for meeting up with me dear, appreciate it a lot… ^_^

At about 6, bid good byes and hugs, and head off alone back to Clayton. Sat at the wrong bus station but luckily I didn’t get on the wrong bus and manage to run to the correct bus that is about to take off. I was the last to get out of the bus, which last stop is in Monash Uni. Awesome experience! I actually kept all my transport tickets where I took my first rides to some places. Hehe… Eden & Andrew keeping movie tickets, I’m going to keep my bus tickets as well. ^_^

On Saturday…

Need to head to city AGAIN! Because my aunt from Malaysia came to visit my cousin and she want to treat me “dim sum”. So…. I head to city AGAIN. And guess what, I didn’t go there alone again, just so happens, I met “si si” and her sister at the bus stop, they were heading to city as well, am I blessed or what? He’s really watching over me all the time, love the feeling. So yeah, the sisters went to city with me. [Haha… God don’t trust that I can get myself to city alone.]

On Sunday….

My halls “Talent Night”. To cut it short, on Friday, I was asked to go to Selene’s room. [She’s my Residential Advisor (RA), a senior student, an Australian, she’s really nice.] Out of no where, she asked me whether I got any talents, and randomly, she asked me to sing. I was really blur, wanted to be bit open and sporting, so I just simply sing a song, and BANG! She signed me up for Talent Night and even got me a guitarist [Nihal, an Indian, senior student and a Christian], pianist [Peter, German mix Chinese] and another girl [Sarah, and Australian, Nihal’s GF] to sing with me. I don’t know them at all, but it was really a great to know them.

I was really blur, and didn’t think of to really sing on stage. I’m really not a stage person, I was, but that was when I’m really young. I even refused to sing with my sisters on my dad’s company annual dinner. How can I perform in front of all the people, especially when they are all westerners? At the same time, I’m can’t seem to study or progress in my assignments, because I’m caught in watching “Small Ville” and God is not near. I was really stressed up on Saturday, and didn’t feel like doing it. But Both Selene and Kevin [A friend that lives in the same stairway as me, a senior from Malaysia. Being a very blur person I am, he helped me a lot with loads of stuff, owe him a lot!] have been a really good encourager. ^_^

Then, God appears in the picture. He sort of convinced me to do it as well. He taught me something new. I’ve always been a really timid and introvert person. Whatever stuff I want or like, because of me timidity, it often holds me back and I always do not have the courage to grasp it or pursue it, and that’s when I miss out and miss something that are important to me. Like singing is one of the examples, I like singing, but am too timid to do it on stage. Well, this was really my test and my breakthrough! And joining the “Talent Night” is my first step where god had prepared! I was thinking that even if I really fail this, I’ll just leave the halls for next semester, haha…

Believe it or not, I sang TWO songs. One with Sarah; another one Solo. Haha… for those who sang with me in band in church before will probably know that I always had problems entering song, always depend on musicians to nod their head to ask me to enter. Well, I’m still the old Brigette and I entered wrongly again when performed on stage, but it was all right, because Nihal back me up. Haha.. Well, it turns out really well. I actually got positive feedback from people. *cheers! God’s grace*

The “Talent Night” is not a competition, no winners or prizes it is just for fun and for people to gather and get to know one another. And it was really fun with all the crazy performances! Glad that I didn’t miss it or even miss the opportunity to be on stage. Here are some pictures, taken by Kevin. These are not all the performance, I just picked some.

One of the Residential Advisor, his name is Bawa, from Sri Lanka. He's telling jokes in the middle of the break. [I rarely laugh at jokes, but I reckon it's quite funny, because everyone was laughing] At the end he did an Indian dance as well, which was really funny and nice.

Woa... this group is doing a salsa and swing dance, really awesome! They really can swing!

Well, nothing beats a group of cute guys lip singing "I want it that way" by Backstreet Boys, and a bit of dancing. haha.. Yee!! I got a video of them!!

My singing partner doing her solo part, singing Falling from Alicia Keys.

The guy in the orange shirt, Sam, he lives two doors next to me. He's reciting all the 100 numbers on the paper hold by the friend beside him.

A guy acting hilarious. I think he's trying to imitate someone, but I don't know who. He purposely dress up like that and he even coloured one of his teeth black. His actions and all are totally hilarious. Basically, he's not there to sing but to entertain. Haha..

Yes... That's me.

Performance by a girl together with a guy pianist. She's talented, can sing while playing the guitar.

This group is doing a song presentation with whistling, really cute! The guy in the middle really can sing quite well, a typical good looking ''kuai lou"! ^_^

The last group was performed by all the Residential Areas, performing a musical play "Summer Day".

That’s basically what I did for the week, awesome experiences!! Now it’s time to turn on PRODUCTIVE mode and start working hard on studies and assignments. So, am going to concentrate. Hope you all are doing well too. Mel “jia you”!
p.s. Heard from Jane that you guys have always been keeping me in prayer during cg, really appreciate it. Prayers really work! Thank you guys! Will do the same for you all too. *hugs to all*
Lots of Love,
Brigette

Am I healthy or what??!! haha... Well, that's not all. It will shock you guys even more if you know that......

I start playing Badminton as well. Hey! I CAN PLAY K!! Use to play it when I was form 1... BUT! I can play. If it is not for my friends here, I don't think I would want to play, so yeah... another healthy lifestyle practise by Brigette! *cheers

There's a lot of pond in my school compound, so you can imagine how big it is. Well, these pictures of pond are around my area. As you can see, there are a lot of "quak quack". [Haha...Emily likes "quack quack" a lot! She got this particular nursery rhyme she like a lot. Thought of bringing her one day to my school to see all these]

Two little "quack quack"

More "quacks quacks"!! Imagine all these attacking you.. Must be careful, because they can be very violent!

This is pretty...

Not Holding Back

I don't know what happen, but my blog can't seem to post pictures. It's been like this since the last time I posted and I don't know how to fix it. It stated error on page, sigh.... was waiting for it to function properly but nah... it didn't happen. After chatting with Eden yesterday, realise that I really need to update. So, here goes...
p.s There are actually two posts in this one post, I thought I posted that post earlier but I don’t know I didn’t. So yeah… there are 2 dates.

8 April 2007
Hmm… I think a lot of you all have the thought that my life here is happy happy all the way right? Well, you are SO WRONG! So, I thought of writing some difficulties I faced here too. At this time, I’m really busy to cope with current life, friends, church, assignments & assessments. Have you ever try facing the computer for whole day? Yes! Whole day!!?? Searching info for your assignments, reading tons & tons & tons of journal articles. Maybe because of the busyness I’m facing, it sort of distracted me from thinking back too.

People in church are really nice and friendly, the senior Pastor (Pastor Ken) here even sounded like pastor Ho (but only much taller than pastor Ho & he’s white). Haha.. talk about last Sunday was quite embarrassing, can’t stop crying while pastor helped me pray, for I was SO super-de-duper home sick and pressured over studies. Church here… really really (can’t stress enough) reminds me a lot of home. People here are just as nice as people back there, it’s just because everyone know each other so well, it’s kind of hard to fit in. They know each other since they were young & they had their own group of friends, haha… you know what I’m going through. People here always get to give huggies to each other, makes me think of all the huggies back home… sob sob… [kk… I know I sound silly, but I really miss all your huggies!!] Sigh… But God had asked me to stay in FOCUS instead of the group of international students, so I’ll just follow, and see where He’ll lead. But I know it takes time to adapt to this, just need to be patient and be a friend to everyone, then everyone will be your friend.

17 April 2007
In case you all didn't know, besides joining Focus in church, I'm joining "Student Life" in school too. It's a Christian organisation and it’s really awesome!! They always held evangelistic activities and even held bible study for Christian students and really build up believers spiritually and taught us a lot on how to evangelise. For non-believers they will have a 6 class sessions called “Christianity Explain”, which is where they explain what Christ is all about. Last 2 weeks, we even 6 missionaries from Singapore that came here to evangelise, age range from about 17 to 21, accompanied by 2 leaders. It was really a blessing to be able to meet them and see how they work for God. They came here 3 weeks before Easter, and we had about SIXTEEN people accepted Christ from the past 3 weeks, which is TOTALLY awesome! Imagine that, 16 more people joining in the family of God! I even manage to reap a harvest! ^_^ It really was an impact to me, especially to see the one girl that was one year younger than me and able to speak boldly about God’s word to non-believers.

Just pass Easter holiday. It's been great! Didn't waste my time at all. ^_^
I went for "Student Life" camp on Monday till Wednesday, 3 days & 2 nights. There are about 175 people, from 6 universities & about 23 Nationalities.
I met James from Melbourne Uni!!

But.... he's a medicine student. hahaha....
Never been to a camp with "ang mo" culture. It's really very different from the camp we had back home. There are no group games at all, because thier culture is more like relax & easy camps, no crazy & wild games. We had bonfire!! Had marshmallow too. That night was really pretty too, with uncountable preeeeety stars shinning brightly all over the sky.

This camp was more like a camp for new believers, I've been helping around, and had my 1st experience assisting a new Christian girl with her quiet time. God had taught me new stuff through this camp too. ^_^

hmm... after the camp, the rest of the holiday I was working on my 2nd assignment on Sociology. [I got a credit+ for my 1st assignment, which is really near to D!!! sob… but still thank God for it.] Woa... stress like crazy. But but... Melissa was an encourager! Yes Melissa Liau. hehe... mel don't be shock. I read her blog and know that she’s working hard on her assignment too, and when I was doing my assignment, I’ll be thinking that about Mel doing the same thing too, then I’ll be fired up to stay up late to get it done. Hehe… It’s like we are working together. Anyway, pass it up yesterday and had a really bad sore throat after that. Thank god it was after the due date.

Brigette Learn….
Coming out to Australia really broaden up my mind a lot. God’s promises [Genesis 12:1-3] to me are like so real. I found out I have loads of stuff to learn and sometimes I even find myself acting like a baby-Christian, even with all the leading back home. If you all notice, when I speak with you guys, I never ever quoted any scriptures from the bible before. It is because I never bother to memorise any verses and I don’t see the point of doing it because we had the bible with us all the time. Then….. My bible study group leader suddenly shot me with a question. What if….What if? We don’t have the bible with us? Persecution might come one day, what if it’s tomorrow? And we don’t have the bible with us. How are we going to tell non-believers about God without the bible? We can’t just tell them John 3:16 only. We cannot quote any other scriptures because we don’t remember any verses at all. What if we are really really down and we don’t remember any word of God that can comfort us?? Do you know that every single word in the bible poses power? Because it’s from God. [Well, that’s basically what she told me, and I was super embarrassed after I heard what she said, really respect her!]

So…. Brigette Lim’s Purpose of the year had changed!! Firstly, spread the gospel to non-believers! That is still my number 1 priority if you all still remember. Secondly, memorise verses!! Hope that when I get back, I can quote scriptures from the bible into normal conversation already. *cheers*

Sorry about the length again and sorry for not being able to post pictures too. Like what James said before, we are serving the same god, the ONE god. What God did to me, He can do it to you too. Hope it is an encouragement to you guys and hope I didn’t bore you guys.

Additional Part…..
I realise that every time I write my blog, it’s like writing a letter to people back home. I really need to change my style of writing! It has to be like a diary instead of letter.
So here goes…
Today, Brigette Lim found a “good soil” and really hope to be able to plant a seed for god, and if God’s timing is right, maybe I’ll get to reap the harvest as well.
Not looking back, not holding back, because time is running out. Just holding on to God’s promises, believing that He had plant something better waiting in the future.. ^_^

JOY....

IMPORTANT!! (well... not very...)

Guess you all might be wondering where is the music player??!!
Bwahahaha... I purposely hide it away so you cannot press the green button!
I was doing my asignment when I got so tired and went in to check out blogs, heard the song from Mel's blog, and was CRAVING to get one too. Anyhow, I feel that it'll be nicer if I put on some music while you all are reading, and must thank Mel darling for teaching me how to get it work. *hugs*
This song is 就是爱你 (jiu shi ai ni), by 陶吉吉 (David Tao), it's Bri's song!! MINE!! Muahahaha....
Yeah.. hope you all enjoy and if you got sick of the song, can request me to change in "3 8 Box" or if you want to comment on the song, welcome to do so! ^_^

就是爱你们,

First time Cooking

Don't you think my blog is getting boring without pictures? I'm trying to wait for pictures to come in only then I'll update mar. Plus, now I have a camera phone, hehe... can snap pics anytime de lor. Wahaha... yes!! My phone is pink! Sony Ericson Z610i! Although it's not the pink I had in mind but it's good enough, as long as it's pink!

The place I'm living now, has a canteen downstairs that sell quite nice food in reasonable price. But I'm Brigette Lim! I want to COOK myself!! Besides, if I cook my own food, it'll be cheaper compare to buy food outside everyday, and they rarely have vegetables, except salad. SO!! I start cooking. Honestly speaking, another reason I want to cook is because I miss playing "masak masak". When I was young, I LOVE "masak masak"! Now, I get an opportunity to play REAL "masak masak". Of course I won't miss it. I'm nuts when I'm really young, I love to iron clothes when I'm really bored or chop garlic, fold clothes. So basically, I like to do house chores, so I don't really mind doing my own chores now.

Hehe... thought I've get myself ready to be able to cook when I get here, because I've been spending a lot of hours at home standing beside mummy & maid, observe how they cook and all. BUT!!! I was so wrong.... WHY? You know auntie auntie, the food they cook need A LOT of ingredients & preparations. My mom is a auntie, so the food she taught me all need very very long procedures to get it done. I definitely don't have the time to cook those lor. Plus, I'm eating alone. Here, I need to create my own simple & nice food. So, I'm like experimenting food, hehe... it's fun!

Every Saturday, there are two vans that will send students to the nearest super market. I didn't have any cooking equipments with me, so I need to organise and buy everything separately in few weeks, because it'll be impossible for me to carry everything. I have a funny feeling while I need to choose types of frying pans, rice cookers, even Lee Kum Kee and all.

My first time cooking wasn't that smooth, as I said, I don't have all the equipments that needed. I cooked macaroni with minced beef, because ingredients that needed are quite simple. Was cooking with my H.Kong & Macau friend and it was pass dinner time, so no one else is in the kitchen besides us.

I borrowed my friend's chop board to chop the garlics & onions but it wasn't cut nicely, because my friend wanted it back to cut her stuffs, so I just simply cut lor. When I was frying the onions & garlics, I saw big chunks of onions in it, so I wanted to use the ladle to cut it, then...... I put too much force..... Shok.... all the onions fly..... drop all over the place. hehe... I scared my friends.

After cooking, then I know "masak masak" is not THAT fun. I was inexperienced, a lot of uncertainties. From marinating the meat [never done it b4, just follow my friends brief instructions], boil the macaroni [I never cooked this b4, was experimenting], get the shredded cheese melted in microwave [never operate a microwave before]. To get all these done, I was quite stressful, because never done it before. I was exhaust after all the preparations. I sat down looking at my bowl of macaroni that fills with uncertainties, then I literally shout out and say "thank you God for the food". Never thank God so much for the food before, really appreciate every bite and before this, I think I sort of took food for granted. I took my mom for granted as well, when she use to cook back home. Hehe... I know I might sound silly and spoilt to some of you, but yeah... this is my experience, not ashamed to share it. I'm still learning what... ^_^

Next year when Yeeng Yeeng come join me or anyone else that is coming here, can come and taste my home-cook food, going to let you all feel homely, because by then I'll be super pro, because I'll keep trying. I will be happy to cook for you guys! [But u all must pay me la or help me vacuum my house] ^_^

Pictures TIME!
These are the new faces:-

The Start of Something New

friends & family? They are all at Malaysia.
Yupz, new life starts now!

The first night when family left... no need me to say a thing, but you guys who know me well might have guessed that I'll be crying there. The atmosphere was not that bad, and I was just tearing. Didn't get to cry much because of the 3 Cheng Brothers giggling there at the sight of me crying. Anyways, nothing bad, they sort of help me control myself. Guess guys & girls are really from a different planet, hehe... After that, Peter koko sent James; Paul koko & Julia jeje sent me home. On the way back, both of them kept giving me useful words of encouragements. Even got bear hugs from them too! They are one of the biggest blessings god had for me in Australia.. ^_^

Next day (22 feb, Thursday), went to school for last day of ori, where they separate all students into different faculty. Was in desperate situation of course! Don't know anyone! Well, in times like these, you would practically talk to anyone who's around you which have a nice& friendly face. Cut it short, We had free lunch (subway) after the briefing of ori. While eating, we sort of like formed a group and start talking about normal stuff. God is so awesome! I get to meet 2 girls that goes to Clayton church of Christ (Paul koko's family church). One of the girls even offers to give me a lift to FOCUS (Fellowship of Christians Uni Students), which is on Friday; The other girl, asked me to go over her house and have dinner with her family. She pitied me, knowing that my family just went back yesterday. ^_^
Basically, that is how I spent my first day in Australia. When I got back, it was quite late, was tired, so slept straight away.

Sunday (25 Feb), went to my first service in Australia. Paul koko, Julia jeje & Emily girl girl ^^ picked me up from my place! So happy to see familiar faces again! The procedures of the service is very different compare to Mega & need to get use to it: Besides the pastor is a "kuai lou" (miss pastor HO!!), they had holy communion every week i guess.

After church, there is a Clayton festival. A lot of people from church joined in the crowd. I never been to a festival before, so it's actually kind of a good experience. Paul koko they all are staying for the festival, so I joined in too, but I followed the youth around.

Now to describe the festive. A certain long road in Clayton is closed for the festive. A lot of food stalls, game stalls, drinks etc all are placed along both side of the road. At the end of each side of the road has a stage. Announcements are made there, there are also singing & dancing performances too. The church youth participated in the performance with a group of people doing break dancing. There are a lot of amusing games, one of it is the jumping castle (basically, u just get into the big air balloon castle with a group of people and start jumping inside bumping each other).

At night, had dinner at Julia jeje's parents' (Uncle Arthur& Auntie Anne) house. HOME COOK FOOD!!! T_T
We had mi rebus!! I never love mi rebus much back in Malaysia, because the gravy is all watery. But!! Auntie Anne's mee rebus was really awesome!! Yum yum.... I'm always surrounded by good cooks, e.g my mom& Aunt Liz. Here, there's aunt Anne! So lucky... ^_^

How's 1st week of school? Met a lot of people. New faces in every tutorials & lectures. Don't really get to mix with Malaysian, mostly with Aussie people, people from Hong Kong & China. I got BIG exposure! People from these 3 places, all had different slang. And I get to play around with the slang, it just comes naturally. While speaking chinese with China people, out of nowhere, you'll follow their slang, same goes to people from Hong Kong speaking cantonese, but australia slang, bit hard to pick up, hehe.... but soon, I will! Yeah, it's really fun to play around with it.

Had joined FOCUS for 2 weeks by now. About Focus... There are mostly chinese people that are born in Australia, quite a number of their motherland is from Malaysia too. So, they have a mixture of culture. I'm one of the YOUNGEST there!! My gosh, back in Malaysia, everyone is like calling me big sister! Here?!?! Like baby only.... But yeah, another BIG exposure. Actually, Focus based more on uni students that is an Australian. And I'm supposed to be in the IS (international students) Zone, but I can choose to be wherever I want. But!! I'm sort of stuck in Focus, because there's this really nice girl name Mandice, she was like so sad when I say I might want to tryout IS. Hehe...

Anyhow, I do had thoughts to tryout in everywhere& honestly I do have negative thoughts on that group. But, during one of my devotion time with God, I read my daily bread, and it said:-

Is your local church plagued by problems?
Feel like running away to a church that appears to have less problems?
Then wait. Perhaps this is the word you need to remind yourself that there can be no growth without pain.

Haha... so that is one of my testimony. And I'm very sure that god is asking me to settle down here... ^_^
That is what I felt on the first week I been to Focus.

Back in Malaysia(again), I'm always surrounded with people I know. You'll feel belonged &feel excited to go for fellowship & gathering with everyone. Here, don't know anyone much, it's kind of difficult for you to feel excited to go for gatherings. So, on the second week before I went to Focus, I prayed to God, asking Him to give me excitement & sense of belonging. And guess what?

Hoho... God really did his work!! I had a different perception on Focus now. He opened my eyes once again. I found out that I really need to work on humbleness & also found out that there are so many good qualities in the people in Focus that I can learn from in terms of spiritual maturity& how they live their life. I'm no longer the oldest, temporarily need to stop giving but receive all that I can. Sense of belonging? I had it already.. ^_^ I know it's unavoidable that sometimes I might feel left out but I really hope I'll grow to like this new family more. (hope you guys will help pray about it)

Yesterday night, Ester gave me a ride home from FOCUS. She's a medical student, doing her fifth year. We enjoyed our talks so much, that we purposely took a ride down to Glen Waverly to continue our talks. Her parents had divorced only last 2 weeks. She shared on her experience how she faced it and all. Amazed on how she handle it.

Mmm... that's about it I guess. Hope I have not put you all into sleep.
But yeah, I believe god will continue to equip me in Australia. And I still believe that I'll do great things here with God at side. So... you guys back there better stand up & move on, don't lag! I'm definite that when I come back this year, you'll be able to see a new Brigette and I would love to see a new you too... ^_^

p.s try to post some testimonies. and I haven't receive much updates from you guys in blogs. If this continues, i'm paying back k?

The one who still keep you guys in prayer,
Brigette
